in this glowing lab we learned that only one plate of our experiments glowed and also all the collonys grew bigger and some just died and didn’t even get bigger at all .

GATTACA QUESTIONS =)

10. You and your spouse are having a child and are at the Genetic Clinic pictured in the movie. What characteristics would you want for your child and what would you ask to be excluded? Why would you make those choices?
the characteristics i want for my child toys blue eyes and my  hair color and my nose and the things i want excluded is that i do not wan to know how my baby will die and  i don’t want my child to have any diseases neither. i want these characteristics because  like blue eyes and i wish i had blue eyes and we’ll  i jus want my child to be healthy also but id love my child no matter what .
11. Picture yourself as either Vincent, Jerome, or Anton. Would you have acted the same or done things differently if you were in the same world as them? i think i would have acted the same because it is his dream to go up in space even though he  was imperfect to go up in space. he did what he had to todo to achieve his dream and i would’ve  to .
12. How does the society in GATTACA resemble the type of society America was during the height of the eugenics movement?  The GATTACA movie resembles the society in the eugenics movement  because they both wanted the perfect child and in the eugenics only certain people could breed.  Also these two societies  didn’t really like people who weren’t  perfect they treated them way different. There was certain things that imperfect people couldn’t do because f imperfectness.
8.what do you think is wrong  with the society  portrayed in the movie gattaca? what is right?
THE  THINGS THAT ARE WRONG THE SOCIETY IN GATTACA WAS THAT JUST BECAUSE YOU WERE NOT PERFECT YOU COULDN’T  WORK AT A CERTAIN PLACE OR ALSO YOU WERENT ALLOWED TO BE IN THE PERFECT SOCIETY IF YOU WERE IMPERFECT YOU BE INVALID AND THEY WOULD PROBABLY TAKE YOU BACK TO YOUR SOCIETY FOR IMPERFECTS. I THINK THAT NO MATTER WHAT YOU HAVE OR WHAT YOU LOOK LIKE SHOULDN’T MATTER YOU SHOULD BE ABLE TO DO WHAT YOU WANT IN YOUR LIMITS NOT EVERYONES PERFECT UNLESS YOU EXTRACT THE BAD DNA FROM YOUR GOOD DNA.
6. At the end of the film, you are told that the Doctor knew about Vincent all along. Why did the Doctor go along with the fraud? What would you have done if you were the Doctor? THE  DOCTER WENT ALONG WITH THE FRAUD BECAUSE THE DOCTORS CHILD LOOKED UP TO VINCENT BECAUSE HES RISKING  PRETTY MUCH EVERYTHING . EVEN THOUGH VINCENT WAS IMPERFECT  HE WAS STILL DETERMINED TO ACHIEVE HIS DREAM  NOM MATTER WHAT THE COST. VINCENT IS SETTING THE EXAMPLE IT SHOULDNT MATTER WHATS WRONG WITH YOU DO WHAT YOU WANT TO DO FOR YOU NOT BECAUSE PEOPLE READ YOUR DNA AND SAY WELL YOU HAVE A HEART PROBLEM SO YOU CANT DO THIS JOB.  THATS WHY I WOULD GO ALONG WITH THE FRAUD EVEN THOUGH IT WAS RISKY TO GO ALONG WITH THE LIE.
5. Choose your favorite character from the film. Explain why you choose that person. Would you want to be that person? Why? Why not?  MY FAVORITE CHARACTER IN THE FILM HAS TO VINCENT BECAUSE HE PASSING AS SOMEONE ELSE TO ACHIEVE HIS DREAM EVEN THOUGH IT IS WRONG TO PASS AS SOMEONE ELSE. BUT THEN AGAIN HE WOULDN’T BE ABLE TO GO INTO SPACE BECAUSE VINCENT IS IMPERFECT HE  IS SAYING DO WHAT YOU WNAT TODO DONT LET ONE TINY IMPERFECTION STOP YOU.
3. Describe the relationship between Vincent and Anton.
THE RELATIONSHIPT BETWEEN VINCENT AND ANTON IS THAT EVERYTHING WAS A COMPETTION TO ANOT THEY WOULD SWIM OUT AS FAR AS THEY CAN TO SEE WHO WAS THE STRONGEST SWIMMER AND ASLO TO SEE HO WAS THE WEAKIEST SWIMMER AND WOULD TURN BACK.
2. Why do you think Vincent left his family, tearing his picture out of the family photo, after winning the swimming race against his brother?
I THINK VINCENT LEFT HIS FAMILY BECAUES HE DIDNT FIT IN HE WAS IMPERFECT EVEN THE DAD CHANGED HIS  NAME TO VINCENT  ANTON BECAUSE HE WASNT WORHTY OF HAVING HIS DADS NAM FOR BIENG IMPERFECT. ANTON WAS THE PERFECT CHILD SO THE DAD NAMED HIM ANTON AND THE DAD LOVED ANTON MORE SO AND ALOS HE WOULD NEVER BE PERFECT LIKE ANTON SO THATS WHY HE LEFT.

THE DNA EXTRACTION FROM WHEAT GERM/DNA MODEL

https://docs.google.com/presentation/pub?id=1NcHj6BJbmFaP4DYtHCG2DLzUUwImf9XW_KFSfKmyR24&start=false&loop=false&delayms=3000

in this lab we used wheat and detergent to create the ball of DNA in this lab and the detergent allows and helps the cells to brake open.  and we added alcohol to the solution and whiteout makin any foam it created a ball of DNA as the finished product that we wanted . Also in the DNA model that is in this lab all we did was draw the DNA model out and name all the parts to the model like where the sugars are at anne where the nitrogenous is and where it is at in the DNA also that A           is paired with T AND THAT G IS ALWAYS PAIRED WITH G. WE ALSO LEARNED THAT THE BOUBLE HELIX WAS THE DNA MODEL WHEN IT NORMALY TWISTS.

QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS

2.) WHAT WAS THE PROBABILITY THAT YOU AND YOUR PARTNER WOULD PRODUCE A BOY OR A GIRL?

TO HAVE BOYS IT IS A 50 % CHANCE ON HAVING A BOY FOR A GIRL IT IS ALSO 50 % CHANCE BECAUSE THE GUY CAN GIVE EITHER A X OR A Y SO THERES A FIFTY FIFFTY CHANCE  TO PRODUCE EITHER GIRIL OR BOY .

3.) EXPLAIN HOW IT IS POSSIBLE FOR YOUR BABEY TO HAVE A VISIBLE TRAIT THAT NEITHER YOU NOR YOUR PARTNER HAVE. WELL BOTH PARTNERS HAVE A RECESIVE  GENE.

4.) IF YOU AND YOUR PARTNER REPEATED THIS ECXERCISE  AND PRODUCED ANOTHER IMAGINARY BABY, DO YOU THINK IT WOULD LOOK LIKE JUST THE SAME AS THE YOU PRODUCED ALREDY ?  THE BABEY WOULD NOT LOOK  JUS THE SAME AS THE BABY ALREADY PRODUCED BECAUSE IT MAY OR MAY NOT RESEIVE THE SAME EXACT CHROMOSOMES.

5.) A WOMEN WHO IS A HETEROZYGOUS FOR TH CHIN DIMPLE TRAIT MARRIES A MANE WITHOUT THE HIN DIMPLE TRAIT . EHAT ARE THE POSSIBLE GENOTYPES AND PHENOTYPES OF THEIR CHILDREN.  IT BE  BIG C  and it will be little c  SO THE BABY COULD HAVE DIMPLES AND IT MAY ALSO MAY NOT HAVE A DIMPLE CHIN.

6.) WHAT IS THE PROBABILITY THAT THE MAN AND THE WOMAN DISCUSSED IN THE PROCEEDING PARAGRAPH WILL HAVE A BABY WITH A CHIN DIMPLE? IS A 50% CHANCE THE BABY WILL HAVE A CHIN DIMPLE.

7.) A MAN AND WOMEN WHO ARE HETEROZYGOUS FOR TWO TRAITS , CHEEK DIMPLE AJD THE CHIN DIMPLE TRAITS, GET MARRIED. WHAT IS THE PROBABILITY THAT THEY WILL HAVE A BBABY THAT HAS A CHEEK DIMPLES, BUT NOT A CHIN DIMPLE ? IT WOULD BE A 3/16 CHANCE THE ODDS ARE THE BABY CAN HAVE ONE TRAIT AND NOT THE OTHER.

8.) WHAT IS THE PROBABILITY THAT A MAN WITH DARK BLONDE HAIR AND A WOMEN WITH RED HAIR  WILL HAVE A BABY WITH BROWN HAIR ? ITS A 100% CHANCE THAT THE BABY WILL HAVE BROWN HAIR OR RED OR DARK BLONDE HAIR.

In groups we worked together to show what the cells what they do . there was the carbohydrate chains  this model shows th efuntions of what each protein does and what it is

stem cells =)

stem cells
This stem cell research is about how cells help restore a limb like in a salamander  when it loses a whole arm or tail the cells will all gather in that area of the amputated limb . The cells will create all the tendons and that limb once again. and the salamander is good ass new .

1. What are the unique properties of all stem cells? The unique properties of all stem cells is that
2. What are the two main kinds of stem cells used by researchers?
What are the major differences between the two types in terms of their sources and usefulness to researchers?
Give examples for each type of stem cell.  Embryonic stem cells and non-embryonic somatic or adult set cells. embryonic cells are derived from the inner cell mass of an early stage of embryo, known as the blastocyst.human embryos reach this stage 4 to 5 days to  post fertilization. time they have 50 to 150 cells. somatic stem cells  are the adults cells that replenish and replace the damaged that are beings lost.
3. List some of the diseases that scientists think may be treated using stem cell research and suggest how stem cells might be used to treat each disease. To treat blood cancer and blood disorders  Hematopoietic stem cells have been used forever to treat theses blood diseases
4. What are the necessary characteristics that laboratory-manipulated stem cells will need to have in order to be successfully used in cell-based therapies?  stem cells are grown and transformed into  specialized
the word definitions
  1. Cell-based therapies  treatments that can restore tissues.
  2. differentiation change into tissues or ells.
  3. Embryonic stem cell line  have been cultured under vitro conditions that allow proliferation without differentiation for years to months.
  4. proliferation  – fast reproduction of a cell, part, or organism.
  5. plasticity-easily shaped or molded.
  6.  pluripote-  different cell types go up.

my family pedigree

MY FAMILY PEDIGREE

MY FAMILY PEDIGREE SHOWS THE ABILITY OF WHO CAN TASTE THE TASTE STRIP AND WHO COUD NOT TASTE THE STRIP. THE LEGEND SHOWS THE COLOR IN WHICH PEOPLE CAN TASTE IT OR CANT. So every one could taste the  strip ew . The inheritance is dominant in this case every can taste it. This little pedigree was to see if you can taste the strip and if it will skip a generation or will it be dominant or recessive.
